Banging Pipes

Hi, can anyone give me some advive. When I turn off my shower I get banging pipes. It also happens with the hot water taps now. It only doesn't bang if i turn the off very slowly :confused:

Often called "water hammer", this is the effect of suddenly stopping a flow of water that's under significant pressure, i.e mains pressure.

The pipes wouldn't bang so much if they were properly clipped to prevent movement, so it would be a good idea if you did that.

If the pressure is particularly high then you could fit a shock arrestor. If the problem is marginal then you might find that partially closing the main stop cock will alleviate it.
