Bar Valve Shower Lever Problem

The lever for the flow control handle on my bar valve shower has fallen out and won't screw back in! Specifically it's not engaging with a thread when I try to screw it back in, as if the female-side thread has totally gone. The screw or hole don't show any signs of corrosion though. Please advise on the remedy for this. Will the whole thing need replacing by a plumber? Ball-park cost exc labour? [me - no DIY experience]

I take it the handle is normally pointing down when it's off? Turn the cap so the hole is at the bottom and try there?

1. Take the round part of the handle off the valve (should pull off the spindle inside).
2. Try fitting the handle lever. Then:
2.1 If it goes in, try re-orienting the round part on the spindle per trojanhawrs above.
2.2 If it doesn't, try and post a photograph of the internal thread, or at least the beginning of it.

You could glue it in but, to be honest, I would replace the whole bar valve. They are not too expensive and switch over is quick and simple.

Thx Elkato531. I have no DIY experience so I don't trust myself with plumbing lol
