bare plasterboard?

hi just been ripping tiles of in kitchen and bathroom they were the orginal ones from 1984!!! (nice) unfortunaq
tley i could not strip[ them without removing the plaster to oops!!!!!!!! can i tile over bare plasterboard? if so how?
