Basin pop up waste - query

The basin i have purchased has an overflow which falls between the double skin of the basin. I assume this needs a slotted waste however the pop up wast that comes with my Tap does no have one (Bristan Prism basin monobloc).

Any easy solutions? Or have i got to take the tap back?
 
I assume then that pop up wastes are standard and will fit any tap and notmatched as i thought?
