We\\\'ve just had a new Glow Worm Xtrafast combi boiler installed. It\\\'s quite a beast, so we have had a carpenter box it in. It\\\'s high up on a wall in our living room. To our disappointment we now here a very low frequency, but loud humming (bass) sound whenever the hot water or heating are used. The box around the boiler seems sensible with about an inch clearance. No minimum is specified in the manual.

Any ideas or suggestions?

look at page 11 of the installation manual. Heading "boiler location" sub heading "clearances"

I've checked that. It says that is for "servicing" not for acoustic problems. There is adequate space at either side anyway (20mm), and at the front when the doors are open (600mm), but not 300mm below the boiler.
