Bathroom contains party wall - sound insulation required?

I'm planning to move my upstairs bathroom to a room which shares a wall with the adjoining house. Am I required to sound-insulate the party wall? If so, what are the requirements?

Hi jamlip, the requirements are all discussed in great detail in this thread.

Additionally, your work involves a "material alteration" and as such you will have to comply with all the appropriate Building Regulations. The easiest way for you to comply with the relevant Parts of the Building Regulations will be to submit a Building Notice and speak to your friendly Local Authority Building Control.

No, the sound regs on your party wall are irelevant unless your house is made of paper, no one will give a s**t. However hotrod is correct with regards to the BRs.

Thanks guys. I have filed a Building Notice and spoke to the chap at building control (who was indeed friendly!) - he said no need for sound proofing existing party wall, which I thought odd, but hey.

My house may as well be made out of paper - you can hear quite a lot through the party wall as is, so I was going to do two layers of 9mm acoustic wallboard with a sandwich of Green Glue in between, then tile on top of this.
