Guys,

A wee while ago the flaps on my Vant Axia bathroom extractor stopped opening.

The fan itself appears to still be working but obviously is ineffective without the flaps open to allow airflow.

Have spoke to the tech support at Vent Axia an he has suggested that I need to replace the thermal actuator.

Anyone out there back this up??

Next question is: As a complete DIY novice (no soldering skills), is this a task that I should attempt?

Thanks in advance

Shandy

Thanks.

Have posted a message on screwfix but no reply 24 hours on.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Colshandy.

Yes, I believe its a cas eof removing the old actuator and soldering a new one in.

Seems to me you have three choices:

1) Learn to solder.

2) Buy a new fan. Given that your lack of soldering skills means that you probably don't own a soldering iron, this might not be much more expensive than Option 1....

3) Remove the fan, and if you can still find an old-fashioned electrical shop*, see what they would charge to repair it.

* like the ones that used to exist in every high street until all the bl00dy sheds sprung up...
