Bathroom extractor fan (Fused Connection Unit)

I am fitting an extractor fan in a bathroom at ceiling height (8')

I have read one article that states the fused connection unit can be next to the fan providing it is at ceiling level and out of the splash zone.

Another article states that the FCU should be outside the room.

Are there any hard & fast rules.

Also make sure you include the FCU in supp. bonding, oh and you should really notify LABC about the work...
