Hi, I have a bathrom extractor fan that has stopped working as it got water in it (roof leak). I checked the 240V suppy to the fan, and that's ok. Also tried drying out the fan on a radiator for an hour, but still not working. Is there anything I can try to fix it. Or do i have to replace the motor or just buy a new fan? Thanks for any advice, much appreciated!

Its a silavent basic model. No model number on it that i can see, but looking at their website it looks like a 120 model...

There's a number of different types.

How many wires connect to it?

Is it a timer/humidistat type? If its one of those then the circuit board may have got wet and the components may have fried.

Replacing motors is a waste of time - even if you could get one. Easier to replace it.

But first, I assume that you have checked there is power getting to the connection of fan unitf??

The one in our bathroom has not worked since we purchased our bungalow. As we are in the process of modernizing our bathroom i thought i may as well get a new extractor fan unit.
I was expecting to pay in the region of £80-£100, but i gave the measurements of our bathroom to the fella in our local "Plumbsave" he reccomended one that set me back £14.99
So not even worth trying to repair it, if it worked prior to the leak get rid and change it for a new one.
P.S
Take the old one with you and they should dispose of it for you in accordance with the new electrical disposal regulations.
