I am trying to connect a new bathroom light fitting and am having some confusion as to the wiring. I'll keep it extra simple for myself: There are two sets of Red, Black & Green/Yellow plus a set of Red, Yellow, Blue & Green/Yellow. I think this is because of an extractor fan that runs with the light and for a pre-determined length of time after the light has been switched off.

I'm getting confused with my extra yellow and blue wires I think.

I followed breezer's diagram in the reference and it still just tripped the fuse.

What am I doing wrong?

Many thanks.

bare in mind that your diagram has 9 wires (not including earths) and my wires total 7 (not including earths). Both not including the blue & brown of the light fitting.

:?:

My guess then is that you simply don't have a outgoing cable for the next light as this is the last one.

So your 7 wires, not including earths or the light fitting are:

1 & 2 - red & black incoming circuit

3 & 4 - red & black switch

5, 6 & 7 - red, blue & yellow to the fan.

I followed breezer's diagram in the reference
I can give you cast-iron, 100%, categorical assurance that you did not.

I can tell you that I followed breezer's diagram in the reference but I can assure you 100% that I didn't follow it correctly

Many thanks for your post though, it actually makes sense to me now! Knew it would be something ridiculously simple to you folks. I'm off to try again and pretty confident.

Thanks again.[/quote]
