i wish to connect a switched bathroom cabinet light to the existing ceiling light circuit in a new house. in a previous house i ran a feed from the upstairs light circuit to the cabinet via a fused spur fitted with a 3 amp fuse. the cable was concealed in a surface mount plastic conduit. is this still acceptable under the new regulations?

Nothing at all, the bulbs themselves are low voltage and have a separate on off swith built in.

Its pointless putting a 3A fuse on a run from a lighting circuit. It will be adequately protected by the (6A, usually) fuse in the consumer unit.

You can power the cabinet from the bathroom light either switched to come on with the light or just powered from the live & neutral of the lighting circuit itself.

Cables must run in safe zones if concealed (see WIKI) or in surface trunking.

You mentioned regulations. All electral work in bathrooms (England & Wales) is covered by Building Regulations Part P so, to comply with this, you must notify the local authority before the work is done and pay a fee or (better for a small job like this) get a registered spark in to do it and he will look after the legal aspects.
