It was defo the ch sensor. Left had side of the boiler on top of the over heat stat. I dunno if it was in a wet or dry pocket as I drained it down so would no. Tho I'm sure it was a dry pocket as it didn't seem to be in contact with water when removed. Heat paste? Erm no. What would happen if I didn't?

If the original CH sensor then pocket/sensor would have been coated in white paste , as for not applying any when fitting sensor then..........
