Baxi Solo 2 boiler - CH not working???

Am I in the right place??? I'm new to this sight. Searching for help with my Baxi Solo 2 40pf boiler please! I know nothing about CH stuff. The problem is that the CH wont come on. The boiler clicks on but then goes off again almost immediatley. The HW works but the 'on light' on the control panel flashes intermittently and if you try to put HW and CH on together then the 'on lights' on the control panel flash like crazy and nothing seems to work. The boiler is old and in the 2 years we've lived here we haven't had it serviced. I sometimes have to give it a thump to get the fan going but I suspect the control panel (or electrical parts) to be the main fault. Anyone got any ideas please? And most importantly, does it sound like an expensive problem to resolve? Thank you!

if HW works (properly) then a motorised valve problem would appear most likely, but it sounds as though your boiler also needs attention which would be a RGI job

Well I didn't think it'd mean something different for a man, just that a man might have understood as they tend to deal with these things more often. As I said, I know nothing about this stuff.
