Can somebody please give me some advice before I waste any more money unless it is absolutely necessary!

I have a baxi solo 2pf which started to play up before christtmas. Had 2 guys out ..one said PCB and the other said it wasnt ..it was the fan.!

Went with the fan because I am a female and it was cheaper and it was christmas haha.

Anyway.. boiler is still playing up and I rang the guy who said " well lets try the PCB next" However, they are really expensive and having read the fault finding guide , I am not sure it is that anyway.

TAlso , the boiler is on at the moment but it cuts out every five minutes or so and despite the fact that I have kept it on for the last two days , only a few of the radiators are hot. I should mention that , the overheat light never comes on and , at times, there is a smell of gas as the boiler does appear to be igniting straight away .

From what I have read , it could be a gas valve, pressure switch or air in the system but not the PCB but no one will listen !!

Hi Hugh and thanks for responding.

Yes radiators upstairs are hot and its freezing downstairs although I have not turned boiler off for a couple of days cos I am soo scared of it packing in again.

I have been sitting watching it today and it literally goes off every five minutes then there is a bit of a tapping noise and it comes back on for a few minutes again. DId I mention that sometimes the pilot light goes on butr it is a few seconds before I see the flame?

Could well be the pump, boiler is working but the hot water isn't getting away around the system. The upstairs radiators may well have a certain amount of circulation under gravity. You can remove the big silver screw in centre on the pump and check if pump is turning with a small screwdriver. (Some water will dribble out, old towel at ready!) Pump and/or water could well be very hot so exercise caution.

If pump not working try changing speed (switch on side) or a smart tap with a hammer may coax life into it. Failing that new pump probably needed.
