Boiler bangs when igniting hot boiler (small but worrying explosion) may take 2 or 3 attempts to light; ok from cold. Incoming gas supply 30mb, burner pressure 16mb. Recently serviced and fan running ok.
My gasman suggested trying a new gas valve; but this is a bit expensive if it doesn't cure the problem. Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Get a good boiler specialist and he should know how to remedy this simple fault. No diy gas advice is permitted on this public forum.By the way its very unlikely to be the gas valve. 30mbar gas supply :?:

Sounds like the boilers suffering from what we the trade call delayed ignition.
A fairly common fault.
Sometimes can be cured by simply cleaning the electrode - it also can be a pain to fix.
