I am planning an extension and need to weigh up whether to have beam and block flooring or traditional slab.

The work involves digging up my floor in the existing house for insulation and underfloor heating, and extending out into the new bit, which is about 60% of the job (40% inside).

In my mind, a traditional slab would be easier as I know where i am with that, but my builder mate thinks beam and block is much easier, despite having to lay them in an existing house, against the existing foundations.

Any advice out there?

Thanks

Mark

It doesn't really matter which you do. Except when you have particularly deep backfill. Anything over 600mm has to be bonded fill and then block and beam becomes the best solution. Otherwise I'd go with easiest and cheapest for the situation.
