Next question, if anyone can help.
I have beams in my barn conversion.
What is the best thing to use. I like the shiney look that you sometimes see.
Some of the beams are very old pine.
Some beams are very old oak.
The inglenook beam is new oak.

Many thanks
Ian

Hi
Thanks for replying.
The beam over the fireplace is a large unstained bare wood oak
The pine beams have never been stained
The oak beams are about 200 yrs old and are dark but I dont think they have been stained.

Thanks again
Ian

You may need to match the colour slightly between the oak and the pine...(personal choice though) in which case id use sikkens base coat..it penetrates deep.

then apply a couple of coats of clear varnish over the top...

Persoanlly i would do them in a matt varnish....it gives a really nice natural look to the wood...remember, trees arnt shiny.

But obvioulsy the choice is yours
