Belmont Radiator valves

Can anyone tell me if you can change the centre of the valve, its the one that either has green or red o rings around it without draining down the rad?
I have heard different opinions - and its a brand new carpet underneath

Any help?

Yes, but you may still lose a little water.

Better to have a spare spindle with o rings fitted and greased ready to fit!
