BENDIX- wont complete wash cycle - help!

my bendix washing machine has started to give up...

on every cycle it now pauses/stops, to make it start up again i have to move the dial by hand but this takes ages & doesn't work properly

Also the conditioner rinse no longer works unless i try to put it on several times.

Anyone out there know how to fix it, i can't afford to get a plumber in - help!

How old is the machine? Bendix haven't been around for decades or is it a Tricity Bendix? (Totally different machine made by Electrolux).
Sticking on the programme can be several things, where does it stick? on wash? on rinse? on spin? Doesn't move on it's own at all? Does the water get hot?
The conditioner rinse, again, more information is needed. Is the drawer left full of conditioner or water?
Finally, good job you didn't get a plumber in, they don't fix appliances.
