I've ordered a few bits from here recently and saved a fortune over merchants prices.

An example is this fitting at £1.06 + VAT, I bought this recently from my local merchants for £7.45 inc VAT, I feel robbed now.

Surely you plumbers can't buy basic stock cheaper at the merchants?

Don't get me wrong I know local merchants cant compete with these internet companies (less overheads) and I would rarther spend my money localy but it was a recent thread on this site about that pressure equalising valve that got me thinking, in Kevs links BES were cheaper by a mile on the same valve.

What I also hate are those hefty restocking charges at the merchants as well.

Local merchants wanted £8-50 for one 28mm ef T. I got a discount of 40% so paid £5.10. Plumbfix have 10 for £13 so £1.30 each.

15mm elbow Speedfit: Plumbfix 95p. Local merchants £1.50. B&Q bag of ten £10.

My local merchants are almost unvisitable. I wonder how long they will last?

Its difficult for me to imagine why anyone would expect to buy something and then return it later.

Since you are paying for the attention of the staff when you but it then it seems perfectly reasonable to charge for that PLUS the further time wasted if you decide to return it.

Its not clear to me on what basis you are buying things but a professional would usually keep routine parts as stock rather than wasting time and money returning them.
