I have flown Emirates once. April 21 2024 we were supposed to be flying to NZ. Trip of a lifetime. There was massive flooding in Dubai.
Got a text message from them saying our flight would be delayed. Got to the airport. "Sorry, unless you are stopping at Dubai, you cannot fly tonight."
Massive argument with them in the middle of the concourse at MAN.
Our holiday was all pre-planned, our youngest would soon be in the air flying to meet us in Auckland.
Because we had booked our tickets with a travel agent, Emirates washed their hands of us and told us we would have to wait several days for a flight.
As luck would have it, the travel agent was open the next day (Saturday) and we pushed them to help. They bent over backwards and managed to squeeze us onto the same flight the following day.
But the meals that I had booked that Emirates promised would be transferred over never were, so each meal time they would hand out something unsuitable and then say I hadn't ordered anything veggie, so basically tough titties.
They did find something suitable each time though.
When we got to Auckland, we were a couple of cases down, as it turned out they had forgotten to load them up.
They told us we could proceed with our holiday and they would forward the cases to any address we gave them but a), we didn't know where we would be each night as we were winging the accommodation on Wotif and b), we didn't trust them to get the cases to us. So we hung around with our son in Auckland until the next morning and bought a few items of clothing to keep us fresh.
Having lost some time, we had to cut a chunk out of the schedule (going North to 90 mile beach, and carrying on down the East coast), so we were pizzed off to say the least.
The thing is, even with the best, mistakes can happen. It's how those mistakes are dealt with. And we thought we were dealt with very badly. So, I'm not impressed at all with Emirates and won't fly with them again.
Much rather fly Singapore Airlines.
