best method to get paint /gloss off copper pipes??

hi basically doing the kitchen and wanting to take off the old paint off al the pipes and put new on.. whats the best/easiest way of getting the old off?

If they are all cruddy I change the pipe - it's less hassle.

If the existing paintwork is of good adherence why remove it, perhaps better to sand back and repaint it.
