Morning

We have constructed a drain below ground using concrete blocks and cement mortar.

We would like to seal the bottom and the sides of the drain to prevent water penetrating through into the concrete structure.

Which material would you recommend to do this ?

I was thinking about either general purpose bitumen paint or a liquid damp proof membrane.

Cheers in advance.

Sorry to ask, but why didn't you use a drain pipe?

By the way, strong mortar is good enough to keep stuff water-tight, but is inflexible.

Hi Noseall

We needed to build a storm drain big enough to take gully gratings. There happened to be a suitable concrete foundation hence the concrete block construction.

We also used a 3:1 mortar for strength.
