My current Stanley knife has been awkward to use for years, I don't really know why but the blade has always been difficult to slide in or out, really should have replaced it years ago but anyway today it has died, it was not natural causes. So am in the market for another, is there a better alternative than the classic Stanley? Price isn't really an issue as even the expensive ones aren't likely to break the bank. Also is there any difference between the stock Screwfix blades for £9 vs the Dewalt £18 etc?

Not folding, but I love this version of the Stanley...
Comfortable to grip and solid.

I have used one of these for years, works like a champ

I hate the retractable version , under pressure they can suddenly move . Prefer hefty fixed blade type .

Yowser, that's not so cheap, though I'd hope I don't have to buy another one for the rest of my life but that's what I thought about my last Stanley! ATM I'm leaning towards the Milwaukee Fastback.

I've got 3 of this type, I bought one and lost it, bought another lost that, bought another....then found the other 2 clearing my van out. The biggest challenge is getting them out of the packaging.

I have one of these plus a few but others. I like this one, although one of the plastic bits broke on it recently, but it still works. FYI for those who don’t need know Stanley and DeWalt are owned by Black and Decker. As are Irwin - I also have a retractable knife by these which is ok. I also have a folding version, although no blade storage.

Knife wise I dont spend that much as I tend to start using them as chisels and hammer them. But I like ones that are easy to unscrew without any tools and that can store spare blade inside. My current one is a screwfix - this https://www.screwfix.com/p/magnusson-fixed-knife/6212v?bvstate=pg:2/ct:r But I really like Erwin blades as they dont snap - bi-metal that bend but dont snap
