Alright lads,

Getting an extension done. It includes a WC. It would be nice to fit a shower cubicle in there as well as a back up to the existing bathroom. Would that work in the space available and door position if toilet and sink were moved about? If it's going to be a crap outcome I won't bother. Thoughts welcome, plan attached.

Thanks

Just make it a wetroom: I remember my son's room in the hall of residence at uni being about 1200 square with a cropped corner and feeling very spacious.

Yes: the whole thing was a self contained pod obviously designed to be student proof.

IMO a shower cubicle even if a bit of a squeeze is vastly preferable to a wetroom.

Or fitting the door to swing out into the corridor (probably not a good idea as it would cross the path of the other).

Or bulging the room out into the adjoining one, which would just resemble a chimney breast in your case so may look pretty normal.

Unless the room is big, wet rooms with small areas have to be about the worst 'feature' ever, we have one, inherited from the last owners absolutely rubbish. Fine in a big room.

You can get combined versions, with the washbasin atop the toilet cistern.

My objection to this is that if I'm going to have sufficient facilities available in there that somebody can use a toilet and take a shower, they ought to be able able to brush their teeth as well. The idea of including a shower is, in fact, with visitors in mind. But who wants to brush their teeth at the top of a toilet?

I think these toilet and sink combos are a great space saving idea and fine for washing hands after taking a dump, but I'd prefer three separate facilities here.

My thinking is similar to that mentioned above. Shower cubicle top right, toilet top left against the top wall (so right-angle waste pipe connection needed) and sink in a similar position to that shown. The shower will be on the small side and the toilet will be in a cosy position, but this will all be fine for anybody who isn't obese.

The other option could be toilet against the wall with the utility, next to the door, shower top right and sink top left. This might facilitate a slightly bigger shower cubicle but means taking a **** right next to the door. I feel that it is better feng shui to have the bog away from the door.

Thoughts?

Thanks everybody for contributing, really appreciate the ideas people have on this forum!

I don't understand the objection? What's the difference between brushing your teeth and spitting the foam into a sink 8 inches to the right of a toilet versus a sink directly above a cistern? Or even spitting the foam into the toilet bowl for that matter; you don't need a sink to brush your teeth. You don't even need a toilet if you swallow the foam

People are weird, and think things can't be done simply because they've never done them, not because they actually are impossible.

Thoughts?
I agree with the wetroom. Makes cleaning urine off the toilet and the floor a cinch too, when grandad comes to stay and can't see where he's aiming but refuses to sit down because he's too proud to admit he can't aim (no man can, and they never admit it)
