Hi everyone, I hope someone can advise me on what do here. I am remodeling our 1st floor bathroom, sink toilet etc is out, and I have removed tiles, and skirting boards ready for plastering/tiling. The floor is cork tiles and after removing the skirting boards I noticed that the cork tiles around the far wall (external wall) were just loose layed and there is a big gap between the floor boards and the external wall, pictures attached. I can see the kitchen light shining through and right down into the space between the upstairs floor, and downstairs ceiling. We have a big problem with sound traveling between floors and us and next door. Like we can hear them draw their curtains, and they can hear us cough etc. I think I know now why, as the sound can easily pass between these gaps.

What I need advise on is what do I do know. I was going to keep the cork flooring as a base for lino but what shall I do with the gap? Should I get some plywood and cover it, just pretend I haven;t seen it, fill it with expanding foam (that was a joke by the way . I think the sound issue is for another time but I need to know how to deal with the gap at this stage.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Matt
