Hi all
I have one of these boilers:

http://www.worcester-bosch.co.uk/index.php?fuseaction=literature.detail&con_id=5404&from_id=5029

its a worcester 24i put in in 2001.

2 weeks ago the boiler was dead when I got back from work, the fuse went in the on/off switch on the wall so replaced it :D very pleased.
However same happened again tonight put in new fuse...still dead

Is this the end of my boiler? or is there anything else simple I can try?

good job its not too cold tonight!

at 7 years it should not be final, a boiler engineer is required, me thinks

thanks, didn't want to waste money getting someone in to tell me its a dead duck and after 7 years needs replacing

I will call one tomorrow
thank you

has an electrical fault

one possible cause is a water drip onto an electrical part

someone may be along who knows, but I think you are going to need a professional to fix it. Whatever caused the fuse to blow has probably got worse.

You can have a look for leaks round the pump or underside of the boiler.

p.s. is that you cutting your toenails in the picture you linked?

AS said either a water leak onto an electrical connection which is not too common on these or.... the pump or fan has blown the internal fuse on the circuit board. New fuse needed along with the faulty component

Brittish gas would do a fixed price repair for you at roughly £160

johnD...hehe yes ....in my head ;)

Have looked for water, no sign of leak/water.

superdupergasman...............thanks
Will try british gas for quote. Cheapest quote today was £80 to look at it which seemed a lot to me.

just tried british gas web site £198 fixed price repair.

back to the phone tomorrow.

no chance of me being able to replace fuse etc?

the fuse has blown because there is an electrical fault

that's what fuses are for

You have to get the initial fault identified and fixed. e.g. by replacing the fan or pump, or whatever it is.

the fixed price repair is not too bad, if you have to pay someone else £80 just to look t it, then for another call, plus a new pump, it could be the same or more

Especially if he discovers that doesn't fix it and he has to come back again with another part

e.g. a typical pump costs about £35 - £75 depending on brand and quality

thanks, John.

think i will have to stop trying to save money, bit the bullet and just pay for it....its colder tonight

 a bimbo cold at night :?:

have you been mis-describing yourself?

Fan £70 - £80
Pump head for that model - £70
Bag of fuses £2
Time to Diagnose and fit 2 hrs

could add up

Fuse issue - its not a normal fuse, slightly smaller.

Just get on a jumper tonight and bite the bullet tommorrow!
