A couple of West Country gems explained.

Using large tide range - getting sailing ships 8 miles from River Severn to Bristol Docks and out again, whilst enabling floatation in the harbour - Unexpected bonus for property developers today.

Didn't need this, but Brunel needed to build the longest in the country.

Plenty of 'goings on' Under Box Hill - Note the extra tunnel at East end of main entrance - Massive arms dump plus war time factories plus Govn bolt hole - Underground Wiltshire...

Couple of interesting articles. ;)note how Brunel is depicted as a unpleasant man to his workers, probaly was the case in his determination to succeed.
