I am having problems currently when using both w/b undercoat and gloss with a lot of bits in the paint. I have used the paint from the tin and have passed it through a kitchen sieve into a paint kettle but the bits were still there. It's Johnstones Aqua by the way. I'm now wondering whether there are bits in my paintbrushes although I always clean the brushes well after use.

Any ideas?

I get this problem with modern plastic paint cans. When you pop the lid off, the dried paint around the rim flakes off and drops into the can. I generally just skim them off the surface, or pick them off the wall with my finger as I go!

Better to use an old pair of tights to strain the paint, less chance of bits passing through. With plastic paint cans, when first opened give the lid a good wash to remove dried paint, this will stop bits falling into the paint when you replace the lid.

I had this problem too & found that it was always paint drying on the lid. I found metal lids to be the worst.

So what i did was when i opened up a tin, i would wash the lid. Totally clean of any paint whatsoever. I'd dry the lid out totally. Then when i put it back on - no bits.

If i ever got paint around the rim of the tin/pot then i'd wipe it off completely so it'd never dry in to bits.
