Hi, I ve got black mould staining the bath sealer, can I cut it out and reseal over the remaining old sealer, ill be using Dow Corning 785 that ive seen recommended on this forum.
will new silicone sealer stick to old sealer?
I thought this would have been asked before, but ive trawled the forum and cant see that it has,
Thanks

thanks dbdiy for the post,
Iv used that before about 2 or 3 years ago when I took the bath right out , cleaned all the sealer off and refit it. the black mould has come back and I was thinking iy would be easier to cut off as much of the sealer as I can and put some more CLEAN sealer on top,
will new sealer stick to old sealer.

Yes the new will stick to the old but if the old isn't sealing to the surroundings then it won't do much good. The black is typically where water has got behind the sealant. Always best to prep it properly and start from a clean surface, but entirely up to you of course.

Hi Well thanks for your replies, the bath is sealed well and secure so Ill be cutting the old sealer out as much as poss and see how long it lasts.
Just one other thing some of the grouting doesn't come clean and white any more so I will be regrouting about a square yard, whqts the best way to remove the old grout, I know you can get scrapers but is there a particular tool I could get to make it easier?

Thanks
