A wooden window ledge has been water damaged by flower pots leaving round marks. I have rubbed the whole ledge down and managed to reduce the black water ring marks to a light brown by bleaching them. Should I stain or oil the ledge to try to blend it all to the one colour or would a slightly colour varnish be better.

i used some osmo light oak polyx-oil foundation under the normal matt clear polyx oil in a similar situation recently, it did make the marks less obvious.

I just use a hot iron to remove water marks completely, it evaporates the small amount of water that has penetrated the top.
