We live in a two story steep side villa style affair where the upstairs is bounded by the 45 degree roof in the rooms.
There is a reasonable attic space that we want to re-insulate and board over for light storage like Christmas decorations, some suitcases and a few tool boxes.
Current roof joists are 45mm x 150mm I think and span 2.6m resting on the outer timber frame of the upstairs rooms.
There is a wall running perpendicular to 50% of the attic joists in a room below.
Ideally I would like to add some additional 45 x 120 perpendicular to the roof joists in the attic (4.4m span) at 600 centres I would replace the old insulation at 150mm and then fill between the 120 timbers with 100mm wool giving me 250mm (probably double what’s there now) and then board over it with 15mm OSB (to keep weight down).
Total area would be two sections of 10.5m2 each.
Would the current joists handle the additional weight of the new joists and boards?
