Hi
I have a Vaillant Ecotec Plus 824 combi boiler. I am looking to replace the Honeywell room thermostat with a Vaillant VRT50. The Honeywell is connected via a two wire cable. A few questions for you please.

1. Is the VRT50 compatible?
2. Will it be a straight swap? Take the old Honeywell off and wire up the VRT50
3. Will I need anything else?

Cheers for the help

Dan

I see this is a bit older and you might have it sorted now but yes it’s compatible- all thermostats are just on off switches so the wire just completes the loop or cuts the loop.

Yes, but not all are mains voltage operated, so this needs to be considered.

Although it’s on/off, the VRT50 uses ebus (5-7 vdc) so not a straight swap. The VRT50 is compatible, and you can use the existing wiring, but it would need swapping over at the boiler, otherwise it might just kill the new VRT50 sending 230vac to it. Also removing the cover on that particular boiler would require critical safety checks afterwards.
