Hi all,
I'm getting desperate.....
I have this problem where my gravity fed Potterton Profile 80e boiler keeps cutting out and the water in the hot water cylinder is not getting hot, however all the radiators in the house, which are pumped, are really hot and the house is toasty even on a cold day. We have lived here for 12 years and not had a problem with it prior to this.
The feed to the hot water cylinder from the boiler is very hot to touch but the return is cold, which I guess is what you would expect if the cylinder water was getting hot but it's not!
I spoke to a boiler engineer and he said that it was probably the cylinder which is clogged up with scale, so I replaced it but still have the same problem. (That was a waste of £500 and a days work!)
To ensure that the 28mm return pipe to the boiler was not blocked I turned on the header tank feed which connects just by the cylinder, (this was when the HW cylinder was removed and having blocked off the outlet,) and water flowed straight out of the drain valve by the boiler, so no blockage there.
For some reason the water is not flowing around the cylinder loop. There is decent rise from the boiler to the cylinder and there are no potential places for air to be locked. Hot water is not venting into the header tank either.
Any suggestions would be very gratefully receieved, I really don't know what to try next other than have a new boiler fitted (which I can't afford) and I'm not sure that that would even fix the issue.
Cheers
