Hi peeps need some help. My fathers has had the halstead platinum fitted around 2005. It was powerflushed few years back but since then it has had leaking prv and the boiler has been drained few times! it now has the boiler breaking down after few months were the hot water plays about hot then cold and also the flow has slowed down. We have boiler cover but recently the guy came and said we have scale in boiler and needs a descale. What I wanted to know is can this be done by myself if I was to rent the pump out or something. Also would i need to change the DHW HE? as that has black carbon deposit in it.

By the way its a combi boiler direct fed from mains.

Any links etc would be great.

thanks

I would expect that any professional answering you would know that its a combi and how they work!

For a DIYer its often easier to just replace the secondary heat exchanger.

Its quite easy to clean them but that demands some skill and experience and DIY first attempts may not be very effective.

The material blocking the plate HEs is NOT black carbon! Its a mixture of iron and copper oxides.

 Thanks for the response. I have taken the heat exchanger out myself, so what is the procedure to clean them? Do I need specialist tools etc.

Thanks
