I seem to have a problem with my Ideal classic LXFF 230-280 central heating boiler. The boiler is 5 years old,as is the house. When the thermostat is set to approx 20 degrees C,the boiler switches itself on and off every couple of minutes and this could go on all day. When the thermostat is turned down the problem stops. The themostat was originally in the hall, where the problem started. So we decided to relocate it in the lounge and try it in this position. This did not overcome the problem. The pump is set on position no2,but it happens on any speed the pump is set on.
Would be grateful for any ideas to try and solve this.

Do a search on system balancing, you'll find one or two (small)radiators need their lockshield valves turning right down.

You may also have a boiler which has too high an output and may need the help of a CORGI fitter to range rate the burner to a lower setting.

You say the "problem started" so the boiler must have worked OK to begin with.Sounds like it's short cycling on its own stat rather than working from the room stat so try checking for loose wires on either room stat or boiler and check the room stat is functioning properly.Hope this helps.

I prefer yours!

Since it worked before I would rule out balancing unless someone has been fiddling.

I would look for a problem, perhaps a boiler fault?
