General question. When a central heating boiler kettles is it the hot water or the central heating heat exchanger that is the source of the noise
1) if only the HW system is in use
or 2) if central heating is also turned on?
I have a vokera Linea 24/28 combi and a Potterton Kingfisher MF (gravity fed HW water but used for central heating function not HW) both of which are making noise.
I know that the underlying cause may be outside of the boiler but will leave that to the plumber. I am just interested as to
a) where the noise comes from in the boiler.
b) when the various forums say the Heat exchanger is on the way out/needs exchanging (as a result of a problem which has caused kettling), which one do they usually mean.
I like to understand some of the basics before calling a professional in to fix problems.
Many thanks
