We're designing our kitchen and have to recite the boiler. It would work out best if it could go in a wall unit next to the extraction hood which is obviously cited above the gas hob. Is this a problem?

no problem with the boiler in the unit so long as the units are industry standard minimum distance from the hob the problem could be the terminal of the boiler flue to location of the extracter terminal minimum distances would be in the boiler installation and service guide as there are lots of different measurements for different boilers

if you have an old boiler it may be worth thinking about replacing it, old boilers often dont like being moved

as twgas says if old maybe you should replace some of the older boilers need ventilation to units or compartments they are sited in newer boilers are cool cased and dont require any additional ventilation so keeping the old boiler may mean cutting large holes in your new kitchen units depending on the kw rating of the boiler

SIMple really, look at the boiler installation instructions and the hob installation instructions!

Thanks, we'll be replacing it with a combi boiler (Glowworm Flexicom 32FX) which will suit our needs just fine. It fits into a kitchen wall unit which meets the wife's approval for necessary kitchen esthetics. Document J doesn't say how far the flue of the boiler and the extractor has to be apart or how far the boiler has to be from the gashob (or at least I couldn't find it). Any ideas?

Look in both the appliances' installation instructions, not the building regulations! The hob ones are likely to be more restrictive.
