Hi
The boiler is a 20 year-old Glow Worm Fuel Saver MkII model 50B.
The hot water in the tank gets very hot overnight, even though the central heating is off. This seems to make the pilot light go out.
It isn't a problem with the thermocouple, and only seems to happen when we have the heating on to heat the radiators (the problem only comes along in the winter, not in the summer when we only heat the hot water).
Last winter I drained the whole system and flushed it out after using Fernox - but that didn't make any difference.
Do we need a replacement heat exchanger or boiler thermostat or gas valve or overheat thermostat - or something else altogether?
Ultimately, we need a replacement boiler - but I want to get this problem fixed until we get the money for a combi-condenser.
Advice appreciated.
Thanks,
