A mate of mine has a problem with his central heating. The boiler loses pressure after a couple of days and stops working. But the expansion vessel on the other end of the system still reads sufficient pressure. How so? Don't know the make of the boiler, and he's nagging me to take a look...

Duffin, the gauge could be faulty, especially if it loses pressure. You will need to find out why it's losing pressure first. This could be because of a leak, a faulty t & p valve, or system temperature running too high and making the t & p valve open, dropping the pressure at the same time. I think you may have a little trip to your friends in the pipeline...... :)
