Hi,

I've recently moved into a new flat and I'm having problems with my electric boiler. I've stumbled across this forum and wondered if anyone could help?

My boiler has a "boost" setting. If I put the "boost" on, the water heats fine. Ideally I'd like to use the timer.

I've tried setting the timer but the water simply does not heat. I can see the timer kicking so I can't work out why it doesn't work. Does anyone have any ideas?

Forgive me, I'm knew to this, its probably something really simple!!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Matt

is it a boiler or an immersion heater?if it is the latter the thermal cutout inside the element for off peak heating may have tripped.

Starspark - yes it is an immersion heater! It seems a sensible explanation. Is it a big job and how much
would you expect to pay an electrician to fix it?

Taylortwocities - the boost is a switch, like a light switch. The timer is next to the fuse box, where you
move the notches along to reflect what time you want it

Thanks for you help!!

providing it is only the cutout it would be a quick job to reset and check prob just be a typical callout fee for that. i doubt the immersion element itself is broken as this normally trips the electric when it comes on.

Most likely causes,

Thermal cut out open circuit due to excessive temperature. Assuming theres one fitted. Likely as you state the flat is new.

Also could be the thermostat that controls the temperature of the element at fault.

Its a quick job to determine and rectify if any of the above.

Its possible the timer may be at fault.
