i suggest you see this

Not thermocouple or pilot would go out.

I have prayed but can't get the answer. If it now works the answer is in kind.

boiler is glowworn 45/60
had a new gas block fitted last month & everything was working fine untill today.
the pilot light stays on but when you put the timer to go on the burners dont fire up so just the pilot stays lit. i can hear the pump running.

help!!!!!!

Is this pump controlled by the Room Thermostat? (I notice it is June now and quite warm).

Is it supplying hot water for the taps?

no its not supplying any hot water...it did yesterday.

if the thermo was knacked would the pilot light stay on? i have had a similar problem before & i am sure when i change the thermo it worked!! everything seams to work apart from the boiler lighting up

thx

The thermocouple is a flame failure device. If the pilot light is extinguished it turns the gas off.

If it thinks the pilot light is extinguished, and it isn't, it turns the gas off and the pilot light goes out anyway. This is what happens when the thermocouple fails.

so could the pilot light stay on & my problem still be the thermo?
i just dont understand how 12 hours ago i got the boiler to ignite but now it doesnt. goes through everything else apart from the boiler firing up!!!!

i am so desperate this is a guest house's boiler & we are full till august i cant afford to be without hot water.

The man from Del Monti said NO

Turn the immertion heater on till the engineer arrives

In the mean time try shutting off pilot manually by turning knob or turning off gas to reset it & light pilot again

I am amazed that a guest house does not immediately open the Yellow pages and call someone out to fix it!

Could it be the budget £15 a night B&B that that 59 y.o. Eastenders actor is staying at???

The ones up here are running on a shoe string, there's no money in the game, but yes they do have to supply hot water while they are open, we get a lot of these last minute calls, either hot water or no cooker for breakfast in the morning, when you get there, last evidence of maintenance seems to have been about 50 years ago. Equimpent is out of the ark, no MI's no spares available.

I don't blame the poor buggers, they are left over from the days when people did stay overnbight in Scarborough. The sensible old guest houses have turned themselves into hmo's or flatlets for Wessies to come and draw their benefit in Scarborough instead.
