Hi all, first post here so hope this is the right place and in the correct section.

Had low water pressure the past few weeks and after waiting an age we finally had the local water board come out and diagnose the problem which was a pretty big water leak under one of the neighbours gardens that affected me and another house who share the feed.

They dug the affected part out, sorted the leak and filled the hole back in. When we got home we tried the water and got absolutely zilch, not a drop. Rang the person we've been speaking to at the water board and asked if they could come back because I dont think they've turned the water back on.

Cut a long story short they got an emergency engineer out to us (9pm on a Friday!) Who informed us the water was actually on but there must be a blockage somewhere. He ended up blowing compressed gas up the outside tap which freed the blockage and gave us running water again.

Now the problem. A monumental amount of dirt and grit started coming out the cold water tap which took a good while to clear. Now the electric shower won't output water like it's blocked up. When I tried the hot water tap it trickled out a load of brown sludge before completely stopping.

I'm curious, if the amount of rubbish the shower and boiler have consumed has caused them to pack in, where would I stand having the water board sort it? Shower I'm not really fussed about because it's a £50 Triton but the boiler is a different issue.

Again, apologies if this is the wrong place to ask.

Did the emergency plumber leave you paperwork/job sheet of what he did ? ie clear blockage.

Was the blockage caused by soil in the pipes ?

Did your shared supply neighbour suffer any problems ?

Your shower should have a filter which could be blocked, there could be a filter on your boiler (not knowing which boiler you have) so saying could.

just test all mains taps for good flow, check any ball valves if off mains water make sure they shut off.Other checks can be done but that depends on your water installation although the emergency plumber may have had a look at these.

When we got home we tried the water and got absolutely zilch

The water pipe contractors would have sorted the blockage if you were at home although you have an outside tap they may not have know this or had access to it.

Cant see how anyone with half a brain would have managed to get that much crud into the pipes. You dig down, cut out the damaged section, fit the new section, and flush through, before connecting back up. Water Co's problem, as it was ok before the leak/their repair. get them back.
