Boiler sounding like a woodpecker

Hi there,

Last week when the weather was freezing the boiler (Radiant) was making a noise like woodpecker which has now stopped along with heat to the downstairs rads. The upstairs ones come on but are only a bit warm. I've had a plumber out who said it was frozen pipes under the floorboards and cut a bit off the pipe outside!!! and just to wait which I thought would have defrosted by now but the rads are still cold.

Any ideas anyone??

Any idea how much it would cost on average I know varies a lot but just a rough guestimate??
