Hi,

The other night I lost power to all my power sockets and notice my fuse tripped. I narrow it down to the gas boiler tripping the fuse, what I also noticed is that before the fuse gets tripped and I leave the hot water running upstairs in the bathroom the water alternates between hot and cold.

With the above symptoms can someone tell me what you think then issue is and how much roughly it would cost to fix?

If more info required please ask, thanks.

Much appreciated,
Pete

I expect its the RCD tripped and not a fuse. Thats usually the pump.

You dont say what boiler model but probably a combi and a blocked plate hE.

Cost perhaps £84 + £52 + £100 to fix all three!

It is assumed you have a combination boiler, the secondary heat exchanger is suffering from a build up of sludge on the primary flow side, the boiler can't transfer the heat across to the cold water to heat it into hot water fast enough. So the boiler thermostat switches the boiler off and then the water cools so it switches back on again. You need a new secondary heat exchanger, about £120 plus labour and get a magnaclene fitted to the return pipe on the boiler and it won't happen again as long as magnetic filter is cleaned once a year.

Appreciate the reply, I will get back to you with the model of the boiler as currently I am not at home.

But it seem pretty clear that I need a gas safe plumber, what the best way of finding a honest and reliable plumber? Rated people?

Thanks,
Pete
