Hi Folks
just woken up to a freezing house as boiler hasn't fired, I tracked it down to a sticking boiler fan - found it just rotating very slowly, anyway freed it up eventually and the boiler fired.

question is can I replace the fan or does it come under gas safe and require a heating engineer?

also the boiler is a 13yo Gloworm Ultimate do you reckon it's worth carrying on with it or is it the start of a downward cycle and I should get rid?

thanks
ian

Anything that requires the outer case to be removed is the remit of a gassafe engineer. Your Ultimate is not a bad boiler and with regular servicing should be ok for a few years. Parts are available. Get a new fan fitted and a service and safety check done and you should be good to go.

I agree the ultimate is a good boiler and a nice easy one to work on with no vices ! you'd find it hard to beat for reliability amongst new boilers !

Just make sure the heat exchanger is cleaned for good heat transfer as it will help the efficiency of the boiler.
