The last 3 times I have had to turn off my electricity completely, the bore hole pump has failed to get the water back up to pressure........... for some time.

The first time it took 10mins, the 2nd it took an hour and the 3rd... I'm still waiting   ........

and I'm in the middle of plastering :?

any ideas please............

Is this a submersed pump or a ground level unit?

If the latter then there should be a foot non return valve and possibly a priming valve or device where water can be added to get the pumping action going.

Perhaps the foot NR valve is leaking?

But it all depends on exactly what you have got!

Thks Tony......... this forum never ceases to amaze...I thought this was a difficult one!!

It must be a pump down the bore hols cause theres no pump in the pump house an lecky wires disappearing off down besides the 4" or so pipe into the ground.

some details....

theres a Grundfos wx 80l blue metal tank, next to the pressure dial theres a black box ( 3" x2"x3" ) fitted to the pipe with Italtecnica PM/5 written on the plastic.
by the mains fuses & the last lecky box is a franklinelectric D54516 .

btw...the water came back to pressure at 16z!!......... I plastered with water from the lake!!!

I am confident now that switching OFF the electricity causes the bore hole pump to not work - for ever increasing periods of time which suggests that something isn't priming correctly...

but what...

any more ideas please

...edit. To add I am a bit suprised that this seems the bore hole pump system needs a constant supply of electricity , I made sure that no pressure was lost during the time the power was turned off by not using any water.

The submerged pump should be just that!

Could it be that you have been over pumping and the water level has fallen below what the pump needs?

Can you lower the pump further or measure the water level compared with the pump?

Often owners with wells have a maintenance firm which deals with all issues like your problem.

Thanks Agile,

I doubt water level is a prob.........but then I don't know much lol !! sounds it could be that.... For years I've never had a problem and our water consumption has reduced a lot in the last few years...and I live in one of the wettest places in the uk.
I can't understand if water level was the problem why the pump doesn't fail when elctricity is on..
Maintenance contract....... a long story but nobody within a 50 mile radius is willing to attend......and I havn't found anybody yet who is!!
