Boris Johnson changes ministerial code so those who breach it don't have to quit or face sack

Following the Owen Paterson lobbying scandal last year, the standards of conduct for ministers were looked into. But opposition parties are not best pleased with the new changes, as they feel there will be less scrutiny.

Hmm well, grudgingly putting cynicism aside for a moment, the "rules" as they are now, he has a point, are a bit daft.
Death to all those who bugger the Home Secretary, or forget to return a phone call.
The whole miasma which is Standards in HMG really does seriously need sorting out.

From the end of that Sky article:

"The prime minister has now proposed a ban on MPs working as paid political consultants or lobbyists, although Labour has accused him of having "watered-down" tougher action.

Following a recent Commons vote on the issue, there will now be a cross-party attempt to bring forward new plans for updating MPs' code of conduct by the end of January."
