Boris Johnson last night faced demands for a Commons probe into his living arrangements to establish whether he is being honest about the true rental value of a plush home he is staying in.

Shameless Mr Johnson, who earned £1million from four speeches over six weeks since being forced out of Number 10, estimates the gift from Lady Carole Bamford is worth £10,000 a month.

That's Bamford as in the owners of JCB, who are also major Tory party donors.

We need a major review of not just this one issue but political party funding in general. How exactly does a digger manufacturer benefit from the money they pay? The same goes for the labour party, in their case they're paid for by the unions, which puts them in a very difficult position when they gain power and face public sector pay demands, so may end up paying more than necessary.

Perhaps it may actually save public money if the parties were directly state funded, as they are in many other countries, on condition that they are banned from taking anyone else's money.

Donors, eh?

"LADY" Bamford. A Tory chum. I wonder what she did to earn a peerage.

More than Sir Tom, who just got a knighthood.

Gave the Tories a generous wedge.

By an amazing coincidence the family of the Bra Baroness were also very generous

And later pocketed £65million through their network of offshore accounts.

The Parliamentary Inquiry into 'PartyGate' gathered for their first meeting of the year on Wednesday to discuss progress, with a decision expected next week on when to launch the next – and potentially most explosive – phase of their investigation.
What is being probed by the seven-member privileges committee, with a Conservative majority but chaired by Labour’s Harriet Harman, is less to do with what happened. Instead, the MPs want to know: who knew what, when?

@TheGuardian

An ITV news item yesterday played audio of an aide in #10 who told how she could hear music and comments from Boris Johnson [who] is facing accusations of covering up Partygate evidence. The former PM also allegedly joked that a Downing Street party during lockdown was 'the most unsocially distanced' in the UK

Boris Johnson tonight faced accusations of a cover-up over claims Partygate evidence was shredded as a probe into the lockdown scandal looms.

@TheMirror

He knew. We know he knew. He knows we know he knew.

The enquiry will conclude with some vague waffle about lessons being learned, several months down the line and nobody will be held to account. Like every other enquiry.

Enquiries seem to be a weapon used to cover things up, their main purpose appears to be to keep the story out of the news for months or years until everyone forgets about it. Nobody will answer any questions now with the excuse that it may prejudice the enquiry.

Perhaps we need an enquiry into why we keep having enquiries that don't achieve anything.

It is particularly noticeable that a dishonest, lying, untrustworthy, lawbreaking incompetent is, in the opinion of many Conservatives, the ideal person to lead their party and the nation.

£171k for £65m? Sounds like a bloody good deal to me.

They all shove Boris to the front because he has a skin thicker than a rhino. When you have lied all your working life, it comes easy. Perfect front for the Tory scum.

God knows why, but he has a very faithful following among the electorate too.
His lies are well known, but they don't matter to the faithful.

And their second choice was the Truss idiot.
