The built-in dishwasher has started to playup recently. Usually it completes its cycle, but it takes up to 3.5 hours to do the intensive programme and for much of the time seems to be standing doing nothing. After a period of inactivity it will spring back to life for another spell. The overall cleaning result is ok. When I first switch it on it does something - filling a resevoir? - and then remains 'stationary' for up to half an hour depending on the programme set ( from about 15 minutes for 55° quick, up to 30 mins for 65° intensive) before beginning the wash.

On occasions it has shut down as though having completed the cycle (leaving mains light on, but programme light off) with the crockery still dirty and the cleaning tablet lying in the bottom, wet, but whole.

Bosch serviceman came and said it was water not getting through to the machine. He said the pump attached to the pipes was working as it was 'humming', but only part of it was visible due to it being behind the cupboard back, so it "must be a blockage in the pipes". I am sceptical as in my opinion if the water supply was a problem it wouldn't work at all. The serviceman seemed more interested in writing his report and getting off to the next call, and was not thorough in investigating. A waste of £85.00 as far as I'm concerned.

As I don't know the sequence of events for these machines, I'm finding it difficult to pin down the problem, but I wonder if it could be either electronics, or maybe only a small part of the heating element is working, taking longer to heat up the water.

I should also add that the door is very stiff and no amount of lubricating will loosen it. I don't know if there's any switching connected with the door.

Any suggestions as to possible cause, or anything that I could do to pin down the problem, would be gratefully received.

Thanks to anybody interested.
